Don’t Know Matcha About Green Tea? January 27 2017

Matcha is a tea powder ground from the finest green tea leaves, concentrating the benefits of green tea many times over. With sole origin from Japan, it used to be unique to Japanese tea ceremony for over hundreds of years and honored in the eyes of Buddhist monks as a powerful ‘health elixir’. Matcha green tea is now introduced into western lifestyle.  With just a few sips you experience the potency of matcha teas’ vibrating health benefits.

An antioxidant powerhouse

Due to environmental and lifestyle situations oxidative stress can occur.  “Oxidative stress has been linked to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and other chronic illness.”  Antioxidants are the body’s defense agents. They are chemical compounds that intervene and prevent oxidative stress. Essentially, the more you have the better equipped your body is in the fight against infections and disease.

Matcha tea has as many antioxidants – polyphenols, flavonoids and catechins - as 10 cups of brewed green tea. (1)(5)

How can this be? Let's break it down: All the goodies are jam-packed in the tealeaves.  However, when poured a cup of loose-leaf green tea you only benefit from a fraction of the nutrients. In solution, instead of munching on tealeaves or gulping down gallons, in walks Matcha: stone ground whole green tea leaves, grown in the shade, delivering the full spread of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants radiating from each leave. (4) (5)

Cancer fighting properties

Of these powerful antioxidants, a specific class known as catechins contains highly potent cancer fighting properties.  According to the National Cancer Institute, catechins have substantial free radical-scavenging capability and research has revealed that they protect against ultraviolet B radiation damage. (2) Harvard research has shown catechins to hold more powerful disease-fighting abilities in stopping oxidative damage to cells than vitamins C and E. (3)

Get Matcha Weight Loss

“A study featured in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that consuming matcha green tea can increase thermogenesis (the body’s own rate of burning calories) from a normal 8%-10% of daily energy expenditure, to between 35% and 43% of daily energy expenditure.”  Studies have shown that body fat mass, BMI, body weight, and weight circumference were all significantly lower after consuming green tea for a consistent period of time. Put simply, matcha boosts metabolism and burns fat without putting stress on the body. (1)

Aids in Detox

Chlorophyll is a highly effective detoxifier aiding in the elimination of toxins, chemicals, and heavy metals that we absorb into our body from our every-day environment.  It also increases the blood’s capacity to deliver oxygen to the cells within the body, allowing regeneration and cleansing at the cellular level. Matcha is high in chlorophyll due to its shade-grown process. Limited sunlight  stimulates production levels of chlorophyll in order to maximize absorption of sunlight. (1)

Increased exercise performance

Clinical tests suggest it can help speed recovery in athletes with workouts focused on high-intensity. It is shown to reverse cellular damage caused by oxidative-nitrosative stress (aka the imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants, an imbalance which ultimately leads to cell damage, preventing repair and causing disease). (1)

Stable energy boost

“Matcha is rich in L-Theanine, a rare amino acid that promotes a state of relaxation and well-being. While stress can induce beta waves and excited, more agitated state, L-Theanine creates alpha waves, which lead to a state of relaxed alertness.”(1)  Additionally, L-Theanine may help memory and learning ability by promoting concentration and clarity, but without the jitters linked to coffee consumption.

Staying Healthy in Fall - The Power of the Mighty Almond October 09 2016

As Summer gives way to Fall, this changing season is characterized by dryer, wetter, colder qualities among other. We want to eat foods that balance us in Fall, that give us sustenance as the season changes. Nurturing ourselves with foods that ground and nurture us while keeping the body warm helps, and especially the tastes of sweet, sour and salty are to be favored.

Almonds with their sweet taste and nutritional power are an ideal component of a Fall diet and a healthy diet in general. Almonds truly strengthen your body in multi-facetted ways – starting with the fact that they are rich in proteins (higher than most nuts), Vitamin E, B1 and A. They contain essential healthy oils and fatty acids, magnesium,manganese, calcium, potassium, copper, iron, phosphorous, zinc. Just to name a few. And the benefits are many...

Filled with Antioxidants

Almonds are very high in antioxidants, protecting against oxidative stress of the cells, helping with prevention of damage to cells, helping to prevent a number of diseases. In Almonds, a large amount of the antioxidants are concentrated in the brown layer of the skin (1).

High in Vitamin E – essential to protect cell membrane

Almonds have high fat-soluble Vitamin E – being among the top food sources for us of such vitamins. The fats from Almonds help to coat the nerve membranes, helping us to feel calmer, effectively helping to prevent oxidative stress and damage to the nerves. In addition, there is plenty of evidence that Vitamin E and fatty acids may help to reduce the risk of certain cancers, Alzheimers, and coronary disease (2).

Help with control and prevention of elevated Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure and harmful Cholesterol

Almonds contain higher levels of magnesium and can help to reduce blood sugar as well as blood pressure , as magnesium deficiency is linked to high blood pressure regardless of weight. Correcting this deficiency with magnesium supplements and magnesium rich foods, such as Almonds, can lead to major reductions of blood pressure (4). They are ideal for diabetics, as they are high in fiber, oils, fatty acids and protein, but low on carbs. The daily recommended intake of Magnesium is between 350 mg to 400 mg, and 2 oz of Almonds provide almost half of that at 150 mg (3), making it an ideal food to add to your diet to correct any deficiencies in magnesium.

Almond skin is rich in polyphenol antioxidants, shown to reduce oxidation of cholesterol in certain studies (2). The study published in the Journal of American Heart Association found that “Almonds reduced non‐HDL‐C, LDL‐C, and central adiposity, important risk factors for cardiometabolic dysfunction, while maintaining HDL‐C concentrations. [….] daily consumption of Almonds (1.5 oz.), substituted for a high‐carbohydrate snack, may be a simple dietary strategy to prevent the onset of cardiometabolic diseases in healthy individuals.”(5)

Reduces hunger and is effective for weight loss

Almonds are high in protein, high in fiber and high in healthy, unsaturated fats – and that creates a feeling of satiety even after eating small amounts. Almonds may help in maintaining a healthy weight (6). “Research has found that people can snack on modest amounts of them without gaining pounds, and that nuts can even help in slimming down” states the NY Times (7). However, it is important to not overeat nuts, and use them strategically during the day to reduce need for heavier or more frequent meals.

Key tips for healthy Almond snacks: Soak almonds and dry them prior to eating

Almonds, like all grains and legumes, contain phytic acid. While phytic acid is an antioxidant, it also binds several important minerals such as zinc and magnesium and potassium to is and does not allow their absorption by the body. One can get rid of phytic acid prior to eating Almonds by soaking them in water or slightly salty water overnight, in a container. Then wash them, and dry them out by placing them in a warm oven for several hours until dry – then eat them or store them for later consumption.

At Tasty6, we use raw, unpasteurized, organic certified Almonds. We soak the Almonds and start spouting them prior to making our Almond milk, making the Almond milk high in nutrition, and easy to digest. It is a powerhouse in protein, fiber, and healthy fast. We add Cinnamon, Medjool Dates to sweeten (with the whole fiber), and Hemp seeds for more Protein and Omega’s 3 and 6! All-in- all a powerful, healthy Nut milk for true Power and providing a sweet protein boost in Fall! To your Health!

Feel the Beets – Become a Staminator September 11 2016

Amazing Benefits of Raw Beet Juice

While the initial reaction I get from people who try our beet juice STAMINATOR is that they either love or hate Beets, the scientifically researched health benefits are truly amazing. And hence make it important that we all try to show the Beets some LOVE! And while many love it and for others yet it is an acquired taste, it is a further amazing how speedy and easy it is to unlock the benefits once you integrate beets into your diet.

It has only been in recent decades that scientific research has focused on the health benefits of BEETS as a “functional food”, and the benefits are mindboggling (1), (2), (3):

  • Improves blood flow, increases stamina and balances oxygen;
  • Very high in antioxidants and nitrates;
  • Good for cardiovascular health, as it lowers blood pressure significantly and manages hypertension;
  • Lowers oxidative stress and inflammation

Significantly improves Blood Flow – increased Stamina, allows for better use of Oxygen, improves Brain functioning and reduces Blood Pressure

Beets contain high amounts of nitrates, a compound which improves blood flow throughout the whole body, including muscles, the heart and brain. It has been shown that “…dietary nitrate may be useful in improving regional brain [blood delivery] in older adults in critical brain areas known to be involved in executive functioning”(6).

Increasing nitric oxide in the blood vessels allows blood vessels to open up further and thereby enhances uptake of oxygen. Beet juice “…improves muscle efficiency and endurance exercise” and “…improves performance during intense intermittent exercise”(3), and also “… beetroot juice supplementation [is] associated with a significant reduction in systolic Blood Pressure”(2).

Beet Juice as a high source of Antioxidants and Anti-Inflammatory Agents

Beetroot is a rich source of “phytochemical compounds, that includes ascorbic acid, carotenoids, phenolic acids and flavonoids”(1), and one of the few sources of the betalains, which are strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capabilities and are being investigated for “…helping with reduction in oxidative stress, chronic inflammation such as liver disease and arthritis and cancer(4)(5)”.

Just 5 oz of Raw Beet Juice a day needed to get the necessary benefits

Research shows that with just 3 to 5 oz of Raw Beet Juice not large quantities are needed to obtain the beneficial effects to beetroots, but rather 3 to 5 oz of raw beet root juice a day(7).

While often it is best to eat the whole fruit or vegetable to get all the nutrients and fiber, beets when cooked or fermented may loose some of the vitamins and anti-oxidants. Drinking raw beet juice may allow for maximum nutrient availability and easy absorption.

Are There Any Side Effects to Drinking Beet Juice?

People who have naturally low blood pressure should use caution when drinking beet juice, as it may lead to an unsafe drop in blood pressure and make them feel lightheaded(7). Also, the red betalain pigmentation of beet juice color your urine and bowel movement red, which is harmless.

The nitrates found in Beets are naturally occurring and convert to safe nitrites in your body, and have nothing to do with the unhealthy nitrites used in preserving meats.

Conclusion: LOVE the BEETS – be a STAMINATOR

Raw Beet Juice is a useful and very healthy addition to your diet and for a healthy lifestyle. Tasty6 offers a powerful Raw Beet Juice, called STAMINATOR. It was designed to bring close to 7 oz of raw Red Beet juice, plus the power of Italian Parsley, Cucumber, Lemon and Apple and Himalayan Salt.

Suggestion for practicing Mindfulness during your Reboot & Rebalance, taking your cleanse onto a deeper level July 29 2016

Why is Mindfulness important for us?

In every moment we have the opportunity to be present and aware . . . to let go of whatever fear, constriction, and stories are running through our mind as we come fully into the present moment.

And it is only in the present moment that we can experience happiness. Since ancient times, people have used a wide variety of mindfulness techniques to cultivate this state of ever-present witnessing awareness. When we’re mindful, we observe our thoughts, emotions, and sensations without judging them as good or bad. Our attention is active and our attitude is compassionate. We’re aware that we’re connected to the patterns of intelligence that weave the tapestry of the entire cosmos. By cultivating mindfulness, you begin to experience another level of mind, where silence dominates. From this state of mindful awareness blossoms a sense of wellbeing and a feeling that you are safe.

When you embrace what is with your whole attention, you will be immersed in the fullness of the now.

Mindfulness practice is simple and easy

You can come to the present moment by shifting your awareness to your breath, or you can bring your awareness to the sensations in your body. Some people find it easier to let their attention rest in the space between objects. This can be the space between breaths, or the space between movements. The way you move your body – sitting, walking, eating, or any other activity – can be the object of your mindfulness. Once you find the method of mindfulness that suits you best, it becomes easy to access your silent witnessing presence. By cultivating mindfulness, you begin to experience another level of mind, where silence dominates. From this state of mindful awareness blossoms a sense of wellbeing and a feeling that you are safe. When you embrace what is with your whole attention, you will be immersed in the fullness of the now.

3 simple methods to incorporate mindfulness into your day during your cleanse:

1. Intention formulating when you wake up

Starting our morning with a clear intent is a beautiful step to bringing mindfulness into our day. The way we talk to ourselves has a profound influence on how we perceive the world, how we feel, and ultimately how the events of our lives unfold.

  • When you wake up in the morning, take a moment before you get out of bed. As you lie in bed, be attentive to the sounds and the silence around you. Take a couple of deep, easeful breaths. Closing your eyes, formulate an intention for wellbeing, health and healing as you embark on this day of your cleanse. Use an affirmative intention that empowers you and fill you with a sense of ease and wellbeing. You can formulate your own intention, or use one of the following:

    • "This day I am nourishing my body and mind, creating wellbeing and health. I am grateful for this opportunity."

2. Mindfulness as you drink your juices and eat of your food

Prior to drinking and when you drink your juices, and eat your food:

  • As you drink your juices, take a moment to “chew” them before drinking them. This sets free enzymes that help with nutrient absorption down the line.

  • If at all possible, choose a quiet setting for eating your food if you can. Eat as quietly as possible, limiting distractions like reading or watching something while eating. Try to avoid eating “on the run” or at your desk at work. As you eat you food, “chew” it slowly and deliberately.

  • Before and/or during drinking and eating your food, become aware of why you are drinking or eating. You may formulate a brief intention, such as:

    • "I am nourishing my body with vital and living foods, healing from the inside. I am fully present."

3. Mindful breathing

Focusing on the breath immediately brings us into the now. Whenever you feel an onset of stress, worry or an emotion you become aware that does not serve you, take a brief moment to:

  • Take a deep and easeful in-breath, counting to 5. Hold your breath, for a brief moment at the top of the inhalation.

  • Exhale counting to five, pushing your abdominals gently towards your spine, exhaling fully. Hold your breath, for a brief moment at the end of the exhalation.

  • Repeat 3 times, counting to 6 and 7, respectively.

  • Additionally, if you like:

    • "As you inhale, envision yourself inhaling white light, filling your body with it. As you exhale visualize yourself exhaling white light."

Take Care of Yourself in the Heat of Summer – Tips on Hydrating Inside and Out, Cooling Foods and Easy Mindfulness! July 27 2016

As we are entering the height summer and temperatures are reaching the upper 90’s and beyond with strong humidity, here are a couple of common sense and Ayurvedic tips to help manage this season even better. While this is a season to relax, it can be taxing and stressful on the body and mind in more than one way:

  • Our metabolism can easily overheat as temperatures increase
  • Bodily imbalances such as sunburn, feeling hot and exhausted may manifest
  • Mentally, we may be more prone to become impatient and lose our temper more easily (even with tasks that usually do not stress us out).

If this sounds like you sometimes, here are some suggestions that might “cool” you down and make life more enjoyable in this season:

Early morning walks and easy walking meditation – Enjoy the warm summer mornings, especially around or below trees, near greenery and grass. This is a refreshing way to start the day, prior to the sometimes punishing heat. It connects you with nature, helps you to soak up the Earth's energy and focus you for the day ahead. Try integrating a walking meditation as you walk throughout the day. Breathe in consciously, focusing on your breath. On the in-breath repeat “I am Alive”, and with the out-breath repeat “I Am Grateful”.  5 to 15 Minutes is plenty. This sets a powerful tone and focus on the present moment for the day.

Hydrate from the Inside – With the intense heat taking out moisture and energy from the earth and our bodies, it is important to stay hydrated. Try taking a refillable BPA-free bottle of water with you during the day that you prepare with a squeeze of lemon (high in Vitamin C, alkalizing, refreshing), a pinch of salt (preferably rock salt with 84 minerals), and maybe a couple of slices of cucumber (refreshing, rehydrating, high in potassium), and/or a slice of ginger (helps with digestion).  This also will help you to be less exhausted and replenish minerals lost when sweating and exercising. Or try our Refresh Coco Cooler! The mix of cooling cucumber, electrolyte-rich coconut water and refreshing mint and lemon is sure to help keep you hydrated from the inside out.

Hydrate from the Outside – Help your skin to deal with the heat and be beautiful at the same time! After taking a shower, dry off well, and mix one spoon of coconut oil with 5 to 8 oz of warm water in bottle. Let the coconut oil dissolve. Then apply to your skin – it will do wonders to moisturize and keep your skin silky and smooth and hydrated throughout the day. When applying, gently massage yourself in circular motions, to get the energy going.

Eat Foods That Cool You Down – Cucumber, watermelon, coconut, and light leafy greens are easily digestible, as with the heat the digestive system tends to be more sluggish.

How to Detox in a Healthy Way April 07 2016

With all the buzz, all the offers, the question remains – what is a good detox, one that truly energizes you and is healthy? Some key elements include:

  • Should include high quality protein sources. Reason: Proteins contain Amino Acids that are necessary components for enzymes and the liver detoxification pathway. How? For example: Consume vegetarian sources such as beans, nuts, and seeds -including lentils, quinoa, buckwheat, millet, hemp, chia, almonds, or clean animal sources such as wild caught cold water fish.
  • Obtain adequate nutrients. Reason: Detoxification is a complex process that utilizes a number of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. How? For example: Eat nutrient-dense foods such as fresh, deeply pigmented vegetables and fruits, that are also high in B Vitamins.
  • Consume cruciferous vegetables. Why? Vegetables in this family help support liver detoxification and estrogen metabolism. How? For Example: Consume brussel sprouts, bok choy, kale, cabbage, parsley, cilantro, other dark greens, etc.
  • Consume antioxidant-rich foods. Why? During the multistep detoxification process, your body can create some toxic metabolites that can cause damage if they are not buffered by protective nutrients.
    How? Supplement or include foods rich in vitamin C, magnesium, selenium, and phytonutrients such as those found in garlic, onions, fruits, and vegetables. Artichokes, turmeric, and coriander contain silymarin (the liver-supportive antioxidant found in milk thistle).
  • Drink plenty of pure water. Why? Part of the detoxification process eliminates toxins through urine and sweat, so you want to make sure things are flowing and avoid dehydration.
    How? Drink at least six to eight glasses of filtered or spring water daily.

Avoid caffeine, tobacco, anything artificial, GMO and processed, added sugars and sweeteners as they put on additional stress on the liver due to their high fructose content

Choose organic vegetables and fruits, if possible, to reduce pesticide exposure, as well as for their higher anti-oxidant and nutritional value. If consuming animal products, also choose organic to avoid exposure to antibiotics and growth hormones and naturally raised for better nutrient profiles (i.e. free range poultry and eggs, wild-caught fish).

Observe yourself, make sure you have at least one good bowl movement a day, to eliminate toxins and waste. Drinking more water also helps to flush the kidneys. Sweating from light exercise also helps. As well as getting good rest, sleeping early, to help your body as it detoxifies.

While you are starting the detox on the physical side of your body, take this time to reflect on other areas of your life that may need attention and may be sources of stress, such as your relationship, emotions, and work. Finally, just take quiet time for yourself, to be with yourself, and take time to just BE! Enjoy yourself.

As a quick reminder, Tasty6 integrates these principles into its 3 and 6 day reboot and re-balance detox packages, by integrating high quality protein sources, flushing the body with nutrients, integrating cruciferous and anti-oxidant rich vegetables through food and juices. Lose Weight and Start on a Path to a Healthy Diet with a Juice Cleanse – Fact or Fiction? February 13 2016

A juice cleanse is no silver bullet to weight loss – but a juice cleanse program is a wonderful way to lose some pounds quickly. And more importantly, the right cleanse program can be a powerful tool to start on a journey to more weight loss and a healthy diet.

When asking people what they expect to achieve with a juice cleanse, the most common answers are weight loss, cleanse, energize, break a habit, start a diet, among others. A 3-day cleanse, which is the shortest cleanse to have any effect on the body, is a good start.

 Realistically, what can a 3-day cleanse achieve?

  • Rest the Digestive System: A cleanse allows us to rest the digestive system . Consuming a phytonutrient-dense, plant-based, gluten-free juice diet allows food to be assimilated quickly through the digestive system. It needs less energy to do so. Often time we have sluggish digestion, food moves too slowly through our intestines, we drink too few fluids – all this gets eliminated when we cleanse with a primarily liquid based juice cleanse.
  • Lose Weight: We lose weight and have more energy as we spend less time digesting and shedding some retained water weight. The cleanse is lower in calories (the average American diet is between 2,000 to 2,500 calories/day, a cleanse will vary between 1,000 to 1,500/day). It will help to reduce cravings and provide it with a concentrated supply of essential and easily assimilated nutrients.
  • Break from Toxins and Processed Foods: It provides us a break from toxins if the cleanse is purely organic. There are no pesticides, no gluten and no GMO’s, and it provides a break from all types of processed foods and ingredients (which we often consume even thought we may have or strive to have a healthy diet).
  • Flood of Nutrients: It floods the body with essential significant amount of essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Consuming only raw foods that are plant-based and rich in antioxidants also helps to reduce inflammation in the body.
  • Re-Hydration: Also, the effect of continuously drinking juices and teas and water will help to re-hydrate the body more than most of us usually do, allowing our body to function more effective in eliminating toxins from the system.
  • Cleanses the palate: The cleanse will allow your taste buds to come back to life. Our taste buds are often severely over-stimulated and numbed by an onslaught of spices, processed foods and ingredients in our daily life. Having a 3-day break allows the taste buds to come clean, and appreciate the true taste of fresh fruits and vegetables and enjoy them, making it easier to embark on a diet filled with fresh ingredients thereafter.

In summary, besides achieving some weight loss, the health benefits show that a cleanse can act as a critical opportunity for resetting and rebalancing for the system.

What components should a good cleanse have, as a general rule:

  • Raw Juices: It should include freshly pressed juices, leaving the nutrients and vitamins in their raw form, to be consumed easily in juice form. Cold-pressed juices that are cold-water pressured are a great way to get started. Properly cold-pressed juices are produced using a technology that uses lots of mechanical pressure (think several elephants standing on your kale) to get the most nutrients and microfiber into your juice.
  • Instructions are important: The cleanse instructions should be clear, and ask to drink plenty of water or non-caffeinated teas between juices. This helps to further hydrate the body, and the hydration helps the lymphatic system to move out toxins. Especially since many of us usually drink too few fluids during the day.
  • Contain Fiber & Healthy Fats: In addition, the cleanse should have the right dose of fiber and proteins and oils, otherwise many of the nutrients that are fat-soluble, such as Vitamins A, D, E and K, will simply not be absorbed properly. A cleanse that includes small, fiber dense portions of vegan food with healthy fats is optimal to maximize nutrient absorption of the cold-pressed juices. The juices should have plenty of fiber left in them – you cans see this by looking at the bottle when the fiber settles in the bottom of the bottle. 25-30% of fiber left in the bottom of the bottle is a sign that the juices have been pressed with a broad mesh, and allow for plenty of fiber to be conserved in the juice – allowing for slower assimilation of sugars from the fruit in the juices, if and when applicable. Also, the fiber helps with the digestive cleansing.
  • Certified Organic a Must: The cleanse should absolutely be wholly organic – as the nutrients in fruits and vegetables are mostly in and under the skin – as are the toxins from toxic pesticides. Despite claims to the contrary, organic crops, on average, have higher concentrations of antioxidants, lower concentrations of toxic metals and a lower incidence of pesticide residues than the non-organic crops across regions and production seasons. Read more about this here. Also, just because someone claims they use organic ingredients, does not mean they actually do – therefore, try to stick with organic certified providers.
  • 6-Tastes for Balancing and Reduced Cravings: Ideally, the cleanse components should contain the 6 tastes - sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent and pungent. This allows the palate to perceive the foods and juices as balancing, it reduces cravings, and it makes it naturally more satiating.

How a 3-Day Juice Cleanse Can Reboot Your Health January 18 2016

We believe the 3-Day Cleanse to be the spark that has the power to start a transformation to a sustained, healthier plant-based diet.

While a “healthy” lifestyle is made up to include several key elements, including physical activity, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, positive stress management, among others - but a “healing” nutrition is a core foundation without which the other elements will have difficulty taking hold. Why healing nutrition? Because food, when done right, is healing from the inside out, and helps us to prevent “disease”, makes us feel energized and healthy. Ready for anything.

Many of us this time of the year re-examine our diets as part of a New Years resolution. Or just because we do know that improving our body’s health over the long term is a sound strategy. With more and more research coming out every year about the dangers of a diet rich in processed foods and sugars, we are all looking for ways to start a positive transformation towards a healthier diet, rich in nutrients, fiber, and fresh fruits, vegetables and complete proteins. And at the same time, a diet that fits into our busy schedule and life’s, and is still tasty – a true alternative to a not so healthy lifestyle.

It is straight forward, but often times our behavior in form of a busy and often stressful lifestyle stands in the way of continuously adopting a healthy lifestyle and sticking with it most of the time.

One powerful solution to get started? Small steps are a great start – and specifically a 3-Day Cleanse. When done right, it can be the tool to break a cycle of processed food, caffeine, alcohol and refined carbs. And get you started on liking a diet that is plant-based and healing at the same time.

For best results, choose a 3-Day Cleanse that combines the following attributes:

  • Combines both cold-pressed, raw juices with low sugar content and plant-based foods. A cleanse based purely on juices will not have enough protein and fiber, and leads our system to burn of proteins rom the liver and then the muscles within 24 to 48 hours after starting a pure juice diet. If healthy, protein- and fiber-dense foods are included, then the nutritional effect is maximized, while enhancing detoxification at the same time.
  • It has to be organic. When a cleanse includes cold-pressed fruits and vegetable juices, the produce is pressed with 9 tons of pressure or more to extract all the nutrients from the fruits, vegetables, and most of all, their skin. But it is also in the skin that toxic pesticides hide a-plenty. No use detoxing with toxins. It has now been widely proven that certified organic growing practices, such as crop rotation, no toxic pesticides, and clean water usage.

Key benefits of a 3-Day Organic Juice Cleanse (with plant-based foods):

  • Break the cycle of cravings of foods that are not useful to your health
  • The body is being flooded with super-nutrients, all organic, healing, easily absorbed – highly anti-inflammatory and raw;
  • Eliminate gluten, dairy, refined carbs and sugars, coffee and alcohol allows us to notice whether we are better off than not having all or some of them in our diet;
  • Naturally lose weight, as the body reduces bloating, sheds water weight, and fat, while feeling more energy. Drinking adequate amounts of fluids, without dehydrating effects of coffee, leads to more clarity and energy;
  • Rest your stomach and repair your gut – giving it a break from any processed or acidic foods (incl. alcohol), with give the gut flora time to repair itself. The nutrients from the juices are easy to absorb, and the fiber from the food helps to carry out any remaining toxins;
  • Rest the liver, our body’s main detoxifying organ, allowing it to work through regular toxin elimination more effectively;
  • Reduce your appetite – as the regular drinking and small, nutrient dense meals and snacks keep your appetite in check, allowing for better digestion, more energy, helping you to change possible habits of large portion eating;

3 Benefits of Spring Cleanse and How it Works March 25 2015

Benefits of Spring CleanseSpring is finally here! What a great time to re-energize and help our bodies to get a fresh start. This is the time to shed that winter sluggishness, the stored energy to keep us warm and is no longer needed as the seasons change. Also, it is a great opportunity for many of us to actually refresh our New Year’s resolution (remember?) to embark on a healthy, take-charge lifestyle! This is a natural time for cleansing. As the weather gets warmer, our bodies are ready to shed the extra winter pounds that kept us warm during the cold-season. And flush out toxins that may have accumulated by heavier cold-winter foods. It is a great time to reboot! Can we help our body detox? Yes! While our body is a perfect “Detox-Machine”, it is now more than ever faced with an on-onslaught of toxins from a number of sources such as processed foods, environmental pollution, pesticides on food - to name a few. And life is fast – so even if have the best intentions as to our health, it is difficult to be continuously on guard. Therefore, helping our body with a periodic “cleanse” is a great way to help it to “reboot” and “rebalance”.

 Many cultures and traditions have done this for millennia. The rewards and benefits of a cleanse are great:

  • Removes accumulated sluggishness of the winter months;
  • You will feel lighter, more energized, and vibrant;
  • You will be on a path to a healthier diet easing your body into the spring and summer season;

How does this work? How can we assist our body in this process?

  • By cutting out processed foods and other toxins during the cleanse;
  • By hydrating well for an extended period of time (the cleanse time);
  • By giving your body a break, you may see regular symptoms like headaches, general aches, congested sinuses, fatigue, rashes, bloating/cramping/gas start to go away;
  • By improving circulation and refueling the body with healthy super-nutrients;
  • By cleaning our taste buds, making fresh food feel alive, interesting and delicious;
  • By reducing inflammation;

6 Steps to an Effective, Productive and Enjoyable Cleanse March 25 2015

Cleanse For Your BodyWhile there are many opinions of how to best cleanse, fast or other detox our body, we believe that a 6-day path of mindful eating and juicing is a good commencement and introduction into a cleanse, which allows us to obtain the benefits mentioned above and achieves the objectives above in the process.  These 6 steps include:

  • Start the day off with a 8 oz glass of warm water (not hot! not cold!), adding half a lemon to it, and if you are fine with it, some small amount of cayenne pepper. This aids to get the digestive system up and running in the morning, remove sluggishness accumulated over night, alkalize the body, and stimulate digestion;
  • A nutrient-dense juice diet for 6 days, supplemented by sufficient water, and some very light protein and fiber rich foods (such as a small quinoa bowl or chia seed bowl with almond milk, some lemon and ginger to aid digestion). When eating or drinking, focus on that and nothing else. Chew your juices as you do your food, to aid with enzyme activity for digestion. Pay attention to having only organic food and juices, as the nutrient and antioxidant activity is much higher and the toxins much lower. A 6-Day cleanse package including juices, foods and nut milks is an easy and healthy organic way to do this;
  • Gentle exercise on a daily basis, such as Yoga, to help the lymphatic system to move out toxins and stimulate the liver;
  • Taking time twice a day to sit and meditate or contemplate nature mindfully. Sitting outside, taking in spring, the sun, the song of bird, closing your eyes and just focusing on your breath. Allowing yourself the time for 10 to 20 minutes at least each time to just “be”;
  • When bathing or showering, gently massage your head and body in small circular motions starting at the top of your head moving downwards, ending with the soles of your feet – again helping the lymphatic system to move toxins through and out of the body;
  • Take time to brush your skin gently with an exfoliating brush, exfoliating the dead skin and toxins away as you detox;

As alas, be gentle with yourself. And consult your doctor before embarking on any kind of change in your diet. If you’d like to find out more as to how to prepare for a cleanse, how to work through a cleanse and what to do afterwards, please visit us at Tasty6.
